Amerks Secure 3rd Place Overall...Drop Kodiaks 3-2 in Finale - Junior Hockey News
Published: Monday, 27 Feb 2012
Amerks erase early first 2 goal deficit...outclass the Kodiaks 3-2 and lock up 3rd place and a date with the New England Stars in 1st round of playoffs.
Exeter, NH
The Albany Americans knew exactly what they had to do this weekend...win both and secure 3rd place overall and a date with the NE Stars next weekend. The sweep would also force the Kodiaks to travel 5 plus hours and stay over night to play the top seaded NSA rather than a 45 minute trek down the road to play the Stars. Something that was all too fitting to the Amerks squad.
"Plain and simple our club does not like them one bit....and there was no denying my guys came to play today after a slow start they had no answer for us...beating them is rewarding especially with our franchise being new to the league I couldnt have been more proud of my guys tonight." Said Head Coach Dennis Canfield
The Amerks after falling behind 2-0 early in the first used a goal by #10 Garrett Jones who fired home a shot from the slot 5 hole on the goalie to get the Amerks on the board. They would equalize the score at 2-2 in the dying seconds of the 1st period as # 17 Maxim Titov after a nifty tick tack toe play riffled home a shot short side sending the teams to the room after period 1 all tied up.
The second period saw two team battle back and forth but both goalies took control keeping the score tied. "I thought both guys played great tonight it was a battle of wills for sure. Jessie has been sound especially in this building we fed off his effort tonight without a question."
The 3rd period saw each team on the man advantage multiple times but it was not until the Amerks Danil Semyan put his team ahead to stay 3-2 as he walked the slot and beat the Kodiak tender to seal the deal. "It was a real gutsy emotional filled effort from our guys tonight...I was happy with their composure and we are now looking to prepare for a sound Stars team in the playoffs"
