JuniorHockey.com today announced that Nolan Valleau, of the North American Hockey League's Port Huron Fighting Falcons, has been named HockeyShot.com's National Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending January 15th.
Valleau +7 while recording a goal and four assists as Port Huron added five more points in three games this week.
Valleau got a game tying helper on Logan Lemirande's third period goal in Wednesday night's 5-2 win over Michigan.
In Chicago on Friday night, the 19-year-old got his second helper of the week on Kody Polin third period goal. Polin's goal sparked a comeback and Valleau added the game tying goal with four minutes left in the third. The two teams had to go nine rounds in the shootout before Mike Fazio secured the win for the Hitmen.
Saturday night's game at Chicago was another barnburner. Valleau assisted on Sean Reynold's second period goal before delivering another helper on Ian Miller's game winner in the 5-4 overtime win.
The Novi, Michigan native played his first eleven games of the season with New Mexico and has been a difference maker for Port Huron since moving to the team in October. With a total of five goals and seventeen assists in 34 total games this season, Valleau now finds himself tied for the 10th spot among the defensive leaders in the league.
Pt Huron's second year coach Bill Warren is very proud of his Defenseman. "He is our best offensive defenseman and is able to do things that leave my head shaking. I look forward to watching him continue to grow throughout the season." Valleau was a two time All-State selection and Warren does not expect to see him back next year. "I have to think he will be in the USHL next season (2011 4th round draft pick Sioux Falls USHL), he is that good of a player."
