Tampa Bay Juniors sweep weekend series from Florida Eels - Junior Hockey News

The Tampa Bay Juniors met up with the Florida Eels this past weekend, with the Juniors winning all three games played.

On Saturday, a five-goal first period propelled the Empire South Juniors past the Eels 10-2. Nick Reed tallied 3 goals and 3 assists, Brendan Nicholson 2 goals and 2 assists, Michael Hirschauer scored twice, David Cross a goal and assist, Dustin Disbro 1 goal and 4 assists and Daniel Fritz 1 goal. Kyle Gertz stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced. For the Eels, Scott Perkins had a goal and assist and Sean Gawel 1 goal. Dylan Knox and Travus McDonald combined for 50 saves. Tampa Bay was 2 for 7 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill.

In their only game of the weekend, the EJHL South Juniors scored 3 times in the second and twice more in the third to overcome a 2-1 deficit after one, squeaking by the Eels 6-5. Chase Anderson shined, with 3 goals and 2 assists. Jacob Holmes scored twice and James Gabrione tallied a goal and 4 assists and Paul Lochner had 4 assists. Braxton Schulz picked up the win with 40 saves. For the Eels, Yevginy Lymanskyy and Justin Boyd had a goal and 2 assists each, Cody Peakman had a goal and an assist and both Ed Streit and Shea Keller scored goals as well. Carl Boomhower had 34 saves. Tampa Bay was 3-for-6 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill.

On Sunday, the Empire South Juniors scored twice in the first and twice more in the third, on their way to a 5-2 win over the Eels. Dustin Disbro scored both first period goals and added an assist, Wade Simon had a goal and an assist and both David Cross and Chad Page had goals. Aaron Wise played well in goal, stopping 30 of 32 shots. For the Eels, Nick Cormier and Joe Clemente scored goals and Jacob Widmer had 38 saves.
Tampa Bay was 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Eels were 1-for-4.


 

Coming up next weekend, the Tampa Bay Juniors travel to Lake Worth to meet the Palm Beach Hawks. Saturday's action begins at 5:00pm EST and Sunday's games get underway at 10:00am.
