Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to report that their annual John Stoddard Cancer Center jersey auction on Saturday December 3 raised $10,925. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to John Stoddard and be utilized by their care coordinator program which assists patients and families with the emotional and physical journey of cancer treatment.
In the live auction that was held following the Buccaneers' 3-2 overtime win over Team USA (U-17); the jerseys went for an average of $455 apiece. Veteran Anthony Greco's jersey topped the list bringing $900 followed by Gasper Kopitar at $800.
"The fans were once again fantastic this season and to raise nearly $11,000 in a down economy shows their generosity, loyalty and belief in the cause" said Buccaneers' team spokesman Scott Montesano. "We'd also like to thank Iowa Health for their support and trust in the Buccaneers to help raise this level of support."
The special jerseys worn by the Buccaneers on Saturday night were the only time they will sport that unique design. The jerseys were predominately white, trimmed in blue and red just like the team's typical home uniform. However, these jerseys featured a scripted "Bucs" across the front in lieu of the team's usual logo and the trim on the jerseys was also altered.
The Buccaneers (9-8-1) have won 8 of their last 11 games and will be at the Tri-City Storm this Friday and Saturday night. They will return home on Friday December 16th and Saturday December 17th against Waterloo and Youngstown respectively.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League this season. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
