DOUBLE THE HONORS FOR ICE GOALTENDER DESMITH - Junior Hockey News

NETMINDER NAMED GOALTENDER OF WEEK"¦JOINS MATTSON ON TEAM USA INDIANAPOLIS "“ The Indiana Ice is proud to announce today a pair of honors to two of their veteran players in goaltender Casey DeSmith and defenseman Nick Mattson.
DeSmith received a double dose of good news as he was first named the USHL Goaltender of the Week after sweeping away 35 of 35 shots in the Ice"™s 3-0 victory over Omaha on Sunday from the St. Vincent Sport Rink at Pepsi Coliseum.
On a national note, the Ice increased their presence on the 2010 U.S. Junior Select Team as DeSmith and Mattson were selected for the roster and will join associate head coach Justin Lyle and director of team services Darrin Flinchem at the World Junior A Challenge November 8-14 in Penticton, B.C.
DeSmith will be making his first appearance on the squad, while Mattson earned a second consecutive selection. Among goaltenders with five or more appearances, DeSmith is second in goals-against-average (1.67) and first in shutouts (2) and save percentage (.948) Mattson, a 2010 NHL Draft Pick of Chicago, has two assists in seven games and is tied for first in the USHL with a (+6) plus/minus.
The Ice sent five representatives to the 2009 gold-medal winning U.S. Jr. Select Team including former head coach Jeff Blashill (Western Michigan), former forwards Shane Berschbach (Western Michigan) and Nic Dowd (St. Cloud) and Mattson and Flinchem.
This will be the fifth year for the World Junior A Challenge. Teams represented in the tournament this year will be Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada East, Canada West and the United States.
The Indiana Ice is a member of the United States Hockey League, America"™s only Tier One league.
