The gloves are off… - Junior Hockey News
Published: Friday, 12 Nov 2010
Maybe you have not noticed, and maybe you really don"t care, but we have been "laying low" when it comes to the North American Hockey League. Trying to harness the natural reaction has been difficult, and AmericanJuniorHockey.com has now fallen off the wagon.
Let"s run down a few things today.
The NA3HL could either be a great way to expand the brand of the league, or it can just continue to be a serious money grab. If the NAHL was to offer a system of promotion and relegation to the NA3HL, we believe that the MnJHL, and WSHL would also want in on the action. What a great concept. New teams enter the super league as the NA3HL, have the opportunity to build their brand, and the top 2-3 clubs get promoted to the NAHL each year. The bottom feeder clubs of the NAHL get the opportunity to re-group in the NA3HL.
NA3HL teams should be able to set their own budgets, and have the option of eliminating the player fee.
One could easily see a system where the league plays at two levels in three regions. Maybe eight teams playing a balanced 56 game schedule in each. (two series with each team home and away).
Will the owners of NAHL teams ever go for this concept? Heck no, it makes entirely too much sense.
More NAHL Expansion? The above concept is outside the box, but the NAHL can eliminate the problem of a watered-down talent pool by actually reducing the over-all number from 57 to 48 teams.
Again, it is never going to happen, because it makes entirely too much sense. Especially if the league wants to include a south east and north east group.
