Mr Smith,
If mandatory drug testing eliminates 70% of the current NCAA Div III players from the level of play, the game certainly has a serious problem.
I agree with Chuck, junior hockey should introduce a drug testing program that is implemented and administered by the leagues. On-Ice officials could oversee 5 guys from each team getting tested before every game. The players would average 4 tests a season and never know when they are next. There are a number of national companies that conduct this type of testing and should cost less than $100 a year per player. That is a small price to pay to give colleges a clinically clean player.
The first dirty test gets a player the rest of the year off. The next and he is out of the game.
For the cost of a good stick, we can eliminate 95% of the problem.
Every dime spent on drugs is blood money. There are places in Mexico that are all but a war-zone due to casual drug use here in the United States. Children and innocent people are being killed every day in the name of drug trafficking. Bring that bloodshed to your neighborhood and then tell me this is a bad idea.
