Daily Dish: Self Imposed Suspension

I've been played and that dang carrot really looked good. Because of that, this is going to be the last Daily Dish for a while.  Curtale Signs? Texas Tornado coach Tony Curtale did not get everything he wanted, and now is on a very ...

Not sure that I'm following your logic about your self-imposed suspension just because you were played. Seems a bit dramatic to me.

Sun lotion - Corona?????? Wish someone would suspend me - - LOL.

I think everyone knows that when you are working from "unnamed - reliable sources" that occasionally the information you try to be ahead of may not always work out. A sorry - I missed that one and back in the saddle would have been my preferred way you handled this.

Dude? Seriously? you claim to have the inside source on EVERY single Jr hockey program across the country! Seems like every time I try to give you the benefit of the doubt you stick your entire foot in your mouth! I am starting to think You really DON'T have any real inside sources! A TRUE JOURNALIST checks and double checks their sources BEFORE they post their stories. OBVIOUSLY you didn't check your FACTS! Sorry but I gotta call it like I see it! Maybe you should have called Tony yourself before you posted that story. BTW just because you no longer live in the United States don't think for a minute that Curtale & the Tornado can't sue you for slander & defamation of character! The first amendment doesn't protect you from being an IDIOT......

Russell dude:

Its not slander to attribute a news report to unnamed sources (or named sources) and be wrong.See CNN and Fox News on the ACA Supreme Court reporting.

Don't think because you do live in the US doesn't mean you can slander someone because you "gotta call it like you see it". You made a direct accusation about someone. From you to him. That's a no,no.

Harry,
May I suggest you look up the word "slander" in the dictionary and any book related to law.
There have been several instances of alleged "slander" going back and forth that a plaintiff and an average lawyer might make a case for.
Personally, whenever I am about to write something that I feel even borders on slander, I run it past a lawyer friend and my law student son. Without exception. And regardless of which site or publication I am writing it for.

Russell, I personally would love to see the Tornado try to sue Stephen for slander. Let them waste more money. Firstly they would lose because it would be filed improperly, it would have to be classified as libel. Slander- spoken, libel-written/ Secondly the burden of proof would rest on them, they would have to prove that the rumors about Curtale's actions were false, prove that the statement caused harm, and that it was stated without adequate research. I'm not sure that they would want to waste time proving all of that.

Libel is a lawsuit based on written defamatory communications--communications that tend to injure someone’s reputation.
Slander is a lawsuit based on spoken defamatory communications--communications that tend to injure someone’s reputation.

In actuality and for media purposes, libel and slander are linked under the Libel and Slander Act (RSBC 1996), Chapter 263.
