Daily Dish: NAHL vs "A" Level Pro Hockey - Junior Hockey - Page 2

Randy, I think the Hookers actually won a USA Hockey National Championship.
Must be a rough gig.

Federal League, here come the Hookers.

Its funny you mention the New Jersey Hitmen are the best team in their arena - I agree with you - Don Kirnan doesn't think so. This is what he said during the last game of the Maine event, the FHL's 5 game showcase in Lewiston.
“This New Jersey (Outlaws) team play out of the same rink as the New Jersey Hitmen of the (EJHL), there’s a 25-goal difference between the (Outlaws) and the (EJHL) team. The Hitmen people themselves know it because they play out of the same rink.”

Don Kirnan is the circus ringleader, kool-ade seller, and chief puckmiester of the league

The Hitmen aren't the best team in the building. Do they serve the greatest purpose in the building? Of course. Would I rather watch the Hitmen play real hockey than the Outlaws play their gongshow brand of hockey? Yes. But take a look at the Outlaws roster. A lot of those guys were stars at the Junior "A" level. Some had a great deal of success at the ECHL and CHL levels but can't seem to let go of the dream after being pushed out of those leagues. A healthy amount of those guys were solid Junior "A" players and some have D1 experience. The Outlaws would likely win with ease. 25 goals? Not so sure about that, but they are the best team in the building right now.

Jacob,
I'd agree if the game was played by FHL rules...but with a tightly called contest, the Hitmen win because of fitness, speed, and discipline.

You may be right. Regardless, I definitely don't believe that it would be as one-sided as Kirnan suggests.

Jacob,
Glad to see you back.
Kirnan is dreaming of a white Christmas and knows this may be the swan song of the league.

If your goal is to lose money in professional hockey or Tier II or above junior hockey - then Dayton, Ohio is perfect for you.
Dayton, Ohio did not support the ECHL, nor the Central Hockey League.
What in the the world makes anyone think they'll support the Federal Hockey League or North American Hockey League? Both of which are clearly inferior.
If you have money -- and for whatever reason, you want to set up a hockey team -- you have a hundred better options than Dayton.

Dayton can't be any worse than Albq or Palmer, Alaska.

Stephen, I agree the SPHL is much more advanced than the FHL. I was just suggesting that the NAHL has sent more prospects to the NHL then the FHL. The SPHL as far as i know is right there below the ECHL. Plenty of those guys get called up as well at one time or another

How could you forget the Gulf Coast Hockey League? You were a part of it.

And the "A" Southern Pro Hockey League has been quite successful in markets where rising costs forced the ECHL and CHL out.

Dave,
The GCHL was not professional. I helped get it going and was quickly asked to step aside.
The GCHL was competitive at the national level of senior hockey and Texarkana was an overtime goal away from a USA Hockey National Championship.
Really, I believe that the Federal Hockey League could have flourished as a full-check senior level league. Same goes for the All-American and a few others.
