Daily Dish II: It’s Monday With the Clark Cup and Memorial Cup in full swing, I've been forced to stay relatively close to home and looking forward to the end of the season. Yea, right. In the second Dish of the day, we are going to go over a few burning ... Read More...

can't see how the NAHL can go with the west only having 4 teams and other having 7. Somehow they need to get 1-2 other teams to balance things out.

How about the West and South divisions under a Southern Conference umbrella and the North and Central under a Northern Conference banner?
At the end of the regular season, the top 8 teams in each conference (regardless of division) make the playoffs. That's the format used by the Ontario Hockey League and it seems to be working out okay.

The one thing I have learned about the NAHL over the last fifteen years... don't try to make sense of the alignment, schedule, or any of their many playoff formats.

I am hearing the NAHL North might be 8 teams -- Soo, Port Huron, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jamestown, Johnstown, Springfield and Janesville -- and that 6 teams will make the playoffs with the top 2 teams getting an opening-round bye.

Randy,
That team would be Janesville... and would not make any sense at all. But we are talking about the NAHL as well, so maybe.
WEST- 4 Teams
Fairbanks
Fresno
Kenai River
Wenatchee
SOUTH- 7 Teams
Amarillo
Corpus Christi
New Mexico**
Odessa
Texas
Topeka
Wichita Falls
CENTRAL- 6 Teams
Aberdeen
Austin
Bismarck
Brookings
Coulee Region
Minot
NORTH- 8 Teams
Jamestown
Janesville
Johnstown
K-Zoo
Michigan
Pt Huron
Soo Eagles
Springfield
Only the NAHL could think this makes any sense

I can tell you for the most part no team really wants to have to travel to Alaska. They are for the most part treated like crap up there. The travel arrangements stink (old buses that break down more than they run), most of the food is at best bad(greasy, not always fresh), the Hotels are as cheap as they can get. I'm going off what I have been told by Players not from experience, so take it for what it's worth.

By the time today's conference call is over the division alignment could change big time.

"Steve Shannon and the team owner should be on the same page. I know that one United States Hockey League coach has been trying to call the owner about a coaching candidate, but somehow that coach is not on Shannon's short list".
Now we know why Port Huron wouldn't consider other candidates, their short list comprised of one coach.....Shannon....
Within one year, the Owner of Port Huron is going to regret ever hiring this person...
Rooting for the Soo and K-zoo this season..

Steve,
Anything more on New Mexico?

Ron,
Matter has been deferred to a Thursday morning conference call.

Matter deferred - do you translate that to - owners couldn't come close to agreeing?

what's the name for Johnstown?

|
Perry,
It all depends on whether New Mexico moves to Chicago.
