Daily Dish: Definition of Stupidity - Junior Hockey
 |
|
Daily Dish: Definition of Stupidity Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube should have the sense to know better. In 1,054 National Hockey League games, Berube was able to muster 159 points (61g, 98a) and a whopping 3,149 PIMs. Those kind of numbers would be ... Read More...

I understand where you are coming from but don't give me that Crosby was some innocent victim. He and malkin was giving cheap shots to flyers all game but got no penalties so the flyers retaliated.

Drew,
Look at that picture closely... see Crosby head snapped back? That is not a dive, that is a downright super dangerous situation.
I don't care what Crosby did during previous moment, nothing he did deserved that kind of response.
OUR sport is taking a beating because of STUPID situations like this. The refs need to do a better job of calling the game to avoid these kind of situations.
I have a firm grasp of the mentality on the Flyers bench, and it looks like they have the right donkey on the job to install it.

Just wanted to point out that a penalty was going to be called on the play, but the review and eventual awarding of Steve Sullivan's second goal of the game canceled out the penalty.
Also the incident was not incited by the cross check to Crosby it was incited by Joe Vitale's hard yet extremely clean open ice hit on Danny Briere.

This is getting way to much press. For anyone to think this don't happen two or three times a game is in denial. Because it's Crosby, it's front line news. Some people just don't have the same man love for Crosby others do. Also, Burube has been there done that. That's why we sit in the cheap seats and he sits in the front row. He can say whatever he feels, as long as his employer thinks it's ok. In my opinion, Crosby embelished this. Not to say it wasn't a penalty, but is'nt a penalty a penalty regardless if it's during play or not? Schenn just chose to take one after the play. Crosby should have got one during.

Jeff - hitting from behind is just plain dangerous and there is no frigging excuse for it.

All you guys watched was the hit on Crosby (It was a push, not a violent cross check). Watch the entire video, after Sullivan scores, play continues because the Ref didn't see the puck go in the net. Crosby skates through the crease, then stands behind the net. The puck bounces to Schenn who shoots the puck down ice, Crosby hits Schenn from BEHIND (Which is THE BIGGEST, CHEAPEST, and DIRTIEST Play in Hockey). As Schenn gets up he's yelling at Crosby and gives him a PUSH. Crosby knew Schenn was going to retailate and went down like he was shot...If Crosby wants to play that way, he won't last another year or two in the NHL. There is a difference between Fighting and the Cheap Shot crap that players like Malkin and Crosby get away with. Players don't respect cheap shot artists and someone will gladly reciprocate with an elbow to his head...

Give me a break Mike you are another one who would defend an idiot over an elite player like Sid the Kid.

Are you kidding Stephen? Like Mike pointed out, Crosby gave Schenn a cheap shot and he returned the favor. Until Crosby and Malkin get called for their cheap shots, they are going to face retaliation.
Where is your outrage on this....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh9EenqzdtM Stop the innocent Crosby and Malkin bs and call it even that every player does this! If Giroux doesnt duck then what?
What about the play when the sabres tied the game against the leafs? Look at Komisarek (#8 since you clearly only watch the Penguins) sit on marcus foligno and pummel his head into the ice repeatdly. Isnt that more dangerous then a cross a check in open ice in the back? Ice against head?

Gee Mike, I just watched your video. If you think that little shoulder to shoulder bump from Crosby was dirty, then maybe you should stick to watching ballet.

Just for the record, I do not like Crosby. Mainly because of all the "Man Love" for him. I have watched many games and he does do some cheap stuff fromm time to time and get so called but most are not. Most of it intensifies during playoff time. I am all for protecting players, but has to be for ALL players. On the other hand, if Crosby is going to play physical and at times give a shot, then he has to realize (as those around him) that someone will call him on it.

Mike's point is well taken. We all judge things differently based on our opinion of the players involved. People want to point out this ticky tack bump or slash. If you think players like Crosby and Malkin are targeted for cheap shots by their NHL brothers, you’re probably right. There is a reason they are. They reap what they sough.

At least a bounty wasn't placed on his head. Something that we mostly joke about thanks to Slap Shot has become a serious reality in the NFL (and America will give it a free pass because this country would cease to function without football...). Can you imagine the media burning hockey at the stake if it came out that bounties were going on?

All,
Here is the deal, there are very few opportunities for hockey to become the focus of mainstream media and Crosby has captured their attention.
When Schenn's shot gets play across the entire spectrum, the result is not good for the game.
I am a big picture guy, and have to hold the game accountable for situations where it is taking a dump on the rest of us.
As far as Crosby taking a dive, the image of his head being snapped back eliminates that argument.
Now back to the stupidity. I am sure that the league and Flyers have put a sock in Berube's mouth. He might as well have put a c-note on a 4th graders' head when he condones Schenn's crap on national, and now international radio, tv, youtube.... The guy is simply not smart enough to understand the consequences of such a stupid remark and that is exactly why his coaching career is about to come to a screeching halt.

This is all entertainment, period! It's ok to have an opinion. That's how you got started. Hockey will never become mainstream in the US. Like I said earlier, you see a head snap back and I say he embellished the snapping of the head. The only thing that gives this a hot button is it involves Crosby. This happens multiple times in every game. As for Schenn, if the powers that be agree with the violate nature of the vicious cross check (Dive), Shannahan will suspend him. But even then it will the Crosby factor! JMO
